Driver licensing

Young Labour, in conjuction with Jacinda Ardern MP and Darien Fenton MP want to know your thoughts on driving licensing and in particular, it's implications on young New Zealand drivers.

The Government is looking to increase the driving age that young people can drive on our roads, and some of the driver licence rules. We want to know what you think.

  • Road crashes are the single greatest killer of 15-24 year olds in New Zealand, and the leading cause of their permanent injury.
  • New Zealanders aged between 15-24 make up 16% of all licensed drivers, yet were involved in 37% of all fatal crashes, and 37% of all serious injury crashes.
