International Links

Young Labour is part of the IUSY, the International Union of Socialist Youth, which can be found at iusy.org. IUSY is a broad global organisation comprising of the youth wings of socialist, democratic socialist and social democratic parties the world over. This membership includes groups as diverse as Young Labour from the United Kingdom, Jusos from Germany, Akbayan Youth from the Philippines, Australian Young Labor, Polisario Youth from Western Sahara, and many, many more.

Being part of Young Labour is membership to this global movement of thousands, if not millions, of individuals all around the globe who hold similar principles and ideals to our own. The battles for a fairer society are taking place in different guises but, as IUSY’s slogan tells us, we are all over the world to change it.

Within this organisation we have previously held the positions of the Asia-Pacific Vice President, as well as holding the Presidency for two terms. Through IUSY we connect on a regional level for annual Asia-Pacific Committee meetings, bi-annually for World Council and World Congress meetings and once every three years for the World Festival.

IUSY World Festivals are events that attract thousands of young people to a week long carnival of workshop sessions examining issues like the position of the LGBT movement, the position of students, and approaches to peace and conflict. On top of these thought provoking meetings of the mind, there is also a very active social program including a variety of concerts and activities. Get a better idea of what these festivals are like by check out our IUSY World Festival 2011 blog posts.

Young Labour also has close ties with various Social Democratic, Socialist and, Progressive youth political organisations around the globe and in particular with our neighbours just across the ditch, Australian Young Labor. Australian Young Labor has helped out on a number of our campaigns and we joined them for a number of theirs.
