Maori voices against privatisation must be heard

Young Labour today reiterated their call for an end to National’s planned sale of our state assets and encouraged young Maori all around the country to speak up against the selling off of our most important state assets.

Young Labour Maori Vice-President Morehu Rei said “The recent breakdown between the Maori Party and National is yet another sign of the deep unrest that this plan for state asset sales has generated”. (more…)

Young Labour declares Karapiro Dam “Not for Sale” with giant banner

Today Young Labour unfurled a massive banner over Karapiro Hydroelectric Dam to send a message that “young people want to own our future”.

The banner, 20 meters wide and 10 meters deep, reads “NOT FOR SALE”.

Young Labour activist Rory McCourt said “Our generation is standing up and making it clear that we can not afford another round of privatisations. It’s time for New Zealand to own our future, and that means holding on to valuable assets like Karapiro.” (more…)

Labour’s plan is about ‘Owning Our Future’

Labour’s new economic policy offers young people hope and the opportunity to own their own future.

“Our bold new plan is about growth, fairness and opportunity and is the game changer the economy needs to provide a better future for young people in this country” said Young Labour president Ella Hardy.

“In the last few years young Kiwis have faced the crippling effects of National’s attacks on worker’s rights, their inaction on the high youth unemployment rate and now their policy of selling off our future, by flogging off our assets for short term gain. This is bad news for the future of our young people in New Zealand.”
